Conditions - Bone Conditions
Osteoporosis - is a condition where there is a loss of the normal density of bone. This results in fragile bones. It leads to porous bones that are reminiscent of a sponge, instead of dense like a brick. This disorder weakens the bones, which causes an increase in the risk of breaking bones. The most common bone fractures with osteoporosis are hip, compression fractures of the vertebrae, and small bone fractures such as hands/wrists and feet.
Osteoporosis can be present without any symptoms for decades, because it doesn't cause symptoms unless bone fractures. Some osteoporotic fractures may be undetected for many years. Therefore, patients may not know they have osteoporosis until they suffer a painful fracture.
Care must be taken especially when adjusting a patient with Osteoarthritis, so always advise your Chiropractor if you suffer from this condition.
Fractures - These are very common. Usually when you think of a fracture, or broken bone, you think of people injuring themselves in car accidents or falling over, where they break or fracture a leg or wrist. But trauma is just one way in which people can fracture a bone. Repetitive stress on a bone or joint can cause "stress fractures", which are most common in the foot. Osteoporotic fractures are those silent fractures that can be present for many years. The most common are in the vertebrae (spine) where they collapse of compress due to the lack of density of the bone.
